Newborn Photography Props - Zoey

Whether you're a new photographer, or a veteran behind the camera, you need to have a certain number of photography props on hand so that you can add that little, extra something to a picture or portrait. Whether you have an array of Newborn Hats, Newborn Wraps, Headbands or lots of Tubs and baskets, you need to keep photography prop ideas in mind when you're settling in to do a shoot. And if there was ever a shoot where you needed props, it would be a newborn photography shoot.

Newborn photography props can add a lot of character to a shot when you have a subject that can't really follow direction or help you out - such as newborns. What props you use will vary depending on the style of shoot that you're doing, but generally the props follow a theme. Baskets and wraps are a good start, whether you're going for a package-brought-by-the-stork look, or you're aiming more for a baby Moses, baskets have long been associated with babies. White wraps for purity are also a good choice, and fluffy ones that look like clouds can give an angelic impression. That said though more playful props such as blocks and toys, particularly big stuffed animals that dwarf the baby being photographed.

In addition to props, you need to consider photography backdrops as well. Since newborns may not do well in outdoor environments, it might be necessary to transform your studio into another place. Or, in some cases, into a fantastical arena that you'd never be able to find outside of a daydream. Summer days, starry nights, fantasy lands and other sweet, positive imagery are all good for getting the proper pictures of newborns. And when you combine backdrops with the right scattering of props you have the elements of a great photograph waiting to be taken.
